A middle-aged couple is in need of a beach house to be designed to sit on their waterfront lot in the panhandle of Florida. They desire the house to be used as an upscale vacation/future retirement home where they can escape from ev- eryday life. The couple knows that they would like an open floor plan and room for possible guests. They have fresh, modern taste, and wish for it to be tied ar- chitecturally to a period style. The couple is passionate about sustainability and green design and wish for those elements to be incorporated into the design.

Taking the client’s wishes into consideration, the style of the house is tied to 20th Century Modern design, keeping with their modern preference. The color scheme is mostly neutral: black and white relieved by grey or taupe tones, as well as blues and slight hints of green. The rooms and elements have adequate size and space for approach and use, given that this home will be a retirement home and will require aging in place aspects.
